Results from County and Non-County (1-22-22)

Parents and Swimmers,

What a great weekend! We dropped time in almost every race, had new state qualifiers, and even set 2 school records!

To start, the Cobb County Meet could be the most competitive HS meet in the state. 18 teams, all with great swimmers, all under one roof for finals.  Honestly, it might be easier placing in the top 10 at state than it was at County.  We took 24 swimmers to County and 2 divers.  Both divers finished in the top 15, and we brought back 10 boys and 10 girls for the swimming finals.  After some great swims, our boys scored 299 points to place 10th, and our girls scored 310 points to finish 9th.  Combined we scored 609 points, which actually moved us up to 8th place!! Out of 18 teams, I felt pretty good about that.  We edged out Allatoona 609-605 to finish 8th.

Now for our school records!  Jasmine Negron scored 435.20 points on 11 dives to break a 24-year old school record!  That was good for 4th place in County, which was our highest finish in Finals!  Jasmine now holds the record for both 6 dives and 11 dives for North Cobb.

Bentley Huff broke the school record in the 100 Butterfly, swimming it in 52.89 seconds.  The record he broke was actually set last year by 200 IM State Champion Dane Charleston. Bentley finished 5th in County with that time, again showing how tough this meet was.

Our relays were outstanding this past weekend, with all of them dropping 4-5 seconds in the prelim, and then dropping 1-2 seconds more in the finals.  Our Boys 200 Medley Relay, Boys 200 Free Relay, Girls 200 Medley Relay, and Girls 200 Free Relay all qualified for County in the A Final, and all improved their seeding, finishing 9th, 6th , 7th and 7th respectively.

Included in that was our Boys 200 Medley Relay team qualifying for State.  We finally had all 4 boys together, and they did not disappoint.  Kale Mullins, Collin Fulton, Bentley Huff, and Aiden Harpe blew past the state time on Friday night in prelims with a 1:47.74 (state cut is 1:51.00), and then dropped 2 more seconds on Saturday to finish with a 1:45.43.

Also qualifying for State this weekend was Tiani Johnson.  She qualified for her first individual event (50 Free) by swimming a time of 26.48 seconds.  Jamie Hockey also qualified her 3rd event for state (50 Free) with a time of 26.17 seconds.

Now we are on to State! Stay tuned for info from Boosters about our end of season banquet.
